Introducing MK SKA in Milton Keynes

Karate and in particular the style we do, Shotokan, is the most popular martial art in the world. MK SKA is affiliated to the JKS, which in turn is a member of the English Karate National Governing Body (EKNGB) — the recognised body in England under the World Karate Federation (WKF).

At MK Shotokan Karate Academy we aim to teach a high standard of karate with discipline and good dojo etiquette high on the agenda. Taking part in karate will help improve your fitness, focus, and discipline, it can also help relieve stress and promote good health. Having our own dojo ensures we have the right training equipment to hand, and gives us the flexibility to offer classes as required.

Whether you want to become a world champion or just improve your fitness then karate could be for you. It is also great for all the family.

Your first lesson is free, so if you are interested in karate, give us a try, you have nothing to lose. Our Instructors are fully qualified black belts, who are insured and DBS checked. We hold gradings as required though we remind all students that it is not a race and everyone will learn at their own pace.

MK SKA is also a supplier of Arawaza high-performance, WKF-approved karate clothing and protective equipment at competitive prices. See our full range of stocked items and sizes here. Drop us a line and we can provide you with a quote.

Our history

After training under Bob Rhodes Sensei (8th Dan) for a few years, Bob’s move out of the Milton Keynes area was the catalyst for Keith establishing his own Shotokan karate club in Milton Keynes in 2015, associated with the KUGB.

Having gained an understanding of the philosophy of the JKS, and seen it successfully applied in his son Kennedy’s development, with the agreement of his students Keith moved the MK Shotokan Karate Academy’s affiliation to the JKS in 2020.

Our dedicated dojo

In 2021 MK SKA moved into our own dedicated karate dojo on the south side of Milton Keynes. Having our own training facilities means we can offer more classes throughout the week. Since taking on a second training area in the same location we have also been able to offer more specialist classes focussing on kata, kumite and developing our tournament team.

  • "Joining karate was one of the best choices I made for myself. I love that in karate people of very different ages and abilities train side by side. So I don’t just bring my children to a sport club - I train with them, and it’s great!"

    — Julia

  • "I suffer with arthritis and the training has helped me tremendously – less pain, more flexibility and more resilience. It continues to challenge and develop me both mentally and physically and I love it!"

    —Laura

  • "The instructors have instilled a fun culture where we don't take ourselves too seriously, albeit retaining respect for others and discipline when needed. This has given the dojo a sense of family where we genuinely celebrate each other's successes."

    — Umito

  • "We couldn’t recommend MK Shotokan Karate Academy highly enough! Keith and Kennedy are two very experienced Senseis who make each training session for our children great fun but with the discipline you would expect from karate."

    - Nicola

  • "While the academy obviously takes the training seriously, there is still space for a bit of fun in the class and the younger members in particular seem to enjoy themselves while developing their skills."

    - Martin

  • "My youngest son has difficulties in some social and group situations which can lead to worries for him. Sensei Keith has been fantastic in handling him, giving him the confidence and focus he needs in training."

    - John
